I’ve been in a funk this week and not feeling the joy at all. Between weather, politics, and just life everything seems gloomy and joyless. My solution is to pull an oracle card.

About Oracle Cards

I find that Oracle cards give a top-level view or advice about whatever is going on. Sometimes I use them in readings to add information or make sure my reading was on the right track. For days like today which lack joy but don’t have any specific reason why, I find pulling an oracle card can be more helpful than a full tarot reading.

The Prophet Oracle

This deck uses phrases from Kahlil Gibran’s poetry as well as his own painting. I love his poetry anyway, and using this deck always gives me something to think about. Gibran’s images are soft, dark, and impressionistic and the creator of the cards has matched the images to the verses in evocative ways.

Joy and Sorrow

Joy and Sorrow - Kahlil Gibran's The Prophet

The text for this card is as follows:

And the selfsame well from which your laughter rises was oftentimes filled with your tears.
And how else can it be?
The deeper that sorrow carves into your being, the more joy you can contain.
Is not the cup that holds your wine the very cup that was burned in the potter’s oven?
And is not the lute that soothes your spirit, the very wood that was hollowed with knives?
When you are joyous, look deep into your heart and you shall find it is only that which has given you sorrow that is giving you joy.
When you are sorrowful look again in your heart, and you shall see that in truth you are weeping for that which has been your delight.

Wow.

As usual, this deck is spot on. The imagery of using destruction in order to create something new really resonates with me today. Sometimes we just need to accept the sorrow and pain so that we can feel joy more intensely.

But what action does this suggest we take? For me, it tells me to own my funk, to accept it and ride it out because I’m creating something new and better.

What does it say to you?

What Clients are Saying about Sophrosyne Tarot

I was advised to ask open-ended questions instead of predictive questions which I thought was helpful because I never would have known if it weren’t for the reader. The reader provided the reading along with some advice too so the entire reading was very thorough and explained in an understandable manner.

Everything said was accurate and helpful for me to identify my flaws in order to grow as a person. I have learned a lot about tarot and what it does to help me.

Denying bad moods and difficult situations doesn’t make them go away. Great input, thank you!

Whenever we are low, frustrated, or in that “funk,” it is always helpful to remember that we are on one side of that mountain. There is always a climb, but the view at the mountaintop is worth it. Thanks for sharing!

Very true! And it is always darkest just before the dawn,so if we give up we never get there!
