My experience with the Tarot is one of surprise and humor. If I let go of my ego and trust my intuition, the results I get are so spot on that I find myself laughing about it. Today is one of those times.  The moment I saw my spread I knew what is holding me back.

I’m on day 7 of the September Tarot Challenge and feeling really good about it. The numerous small changes are having a positive impact on my mental state. However the organizing rabbit hole is right under my feet.

The Heirophant - Lo Scarabeo Deck - Holding Me BackOrganizing things makes me feel good. But it is a problem because I organize things to death and never really get anything done. That is what today’s pull is about. The prompt is “What Am I Holding Onto That is Holding Me Back”?

Organization and Rules Holding Me Back

The Hierophant makes another appearance in this spread. If you remember from Day 2, the Hierophant is all about institutions and rules. Society imposes these rules and they may not serve us well, but we need to know what the rules are in order to bend or break them in a way that serves us.

I like rules and checklists and to-do lists. They make me feel safe. But creating, reviewing, and revising should not be a means to an end. The dopamine hit I get from putting things into order is seductive, but I can’t let it be the purpose. In other words, I tend to organize just to organize and it is holding me back.

The Goal Isn’t Just Fun

King of Wands - Lo Scarabeo - Holding Me BackThe next card is the King of Wands. The salamander on the figure’s robe represents “… infinity and the ongoing drive to move forward against all obstacles”[source]. The problem is that the inspiration of the moment catches me up in the excitement of trying a new system and the fun of a new challenge.

Getting caught up in the system is totally holding me back. I need to do something with the stuff I’m organizing. That includes physical items (looking at my watercolor supplies) as well as just knowledge.

The Chariot - Lo Scarabeo Deck - holding Me BackUse Energy to Move Forward

Also back for this reading is the Chariot. This card also appeared on Day 2 as what could support me this month. Why is it appearing here?

The energy of the Chariot is one of strength, conviction, and plowing through obstacles. The Tarot is warning me about using that energy just to put everything into nicely labeled boxes. I need to actually do something with it. The Chariot is all about not holding back, but it only works if the energy is spent on something that moves me forward.

I laughed when pulling these cards because I spent two hours this morning working on optimizing my notetaking system, including how I can pull my Amazon wishlist into my main notetaking system. The rabbit hole pulled me right in and, happy as could be, I enjoyed every minute. But do I have something concrete to show for it now? The nicely organized notes are now nicely organized in a new way.

In tomorrow’s prompt, I’ll discuss a book I’m reading and how I can use it to actually move forward with something.

What Clients are Saying about Sophrosyne Tarot

I was advised to ask open-ended questions instead of predictive questions which I thought was helpful because I never would have known if it weren’t for the reader. The reader provided the reading along with some advice too so the entire reading was very thorough and explained in an understandable manner.

Everything said was accurate and helpful for me to identify my flaws in order to grow as a person. I have learned a lot about tarot and what it does to help me.
