Why do Tarot reading prices differ so much from reader to reader? The reasons fall into a couple of groups.
Amateur Tarot Readers
First off we have the amateur readers. These readers see that other people make money reading “fortunes” with Tarot and want their cut. Their Tarot reading prices are usually just a few dollars and you’ll receive exactly what you paid for: a rehash of what the cards mean according to their Tarot manual. There’s not a lot of intuition at play here, no attempt to assist you in phrasing your question, and no interest in you or your concerns at all. One-Off Readers
Some readers aren’t looking for a long-term relationship with their clients. Perhaps they own a store of some kind and do readings to get people in the door. Many of these people are on Etsy, I’ve noticed. Again, there is no attempt to ask questions about your issue or assist you in discovering what you really want to know. They don’t customize their spread to your question. You can expect a few lines if by email or a quick 10-15 minutes if in person.
‘Professional’ Readers Desperate for Clients
I put quotes around ‘professional’ here because these readers don’t really trust their craft. They are so desperate for money that they don’t care who they read for, or the types of questions they read for. If they have a code of ethics they are willing to bend them as long as they get paid. Don’t get me wrong, some of these are darn good readers, but they don’t trust their skills and give away their services for far less than they are worth. These readers won’t be in the business very long, unfortunately. They won’t be able to afford it.
Other readers in this category are people who feel they need more experience before they can charge full price. Do you really want to pay money for someone else to practice on you?
Tarot Reading Prices for Professionals
These are the Tarot Readers who charge upwards of $100/hr for their readings because they understand:
- their talents are superior,
- they read Tarot as a career or calling rather than as an amateur hobbyist, and
- they can spend time helping the client.
Professionals have higher Tarot reading prices because they actually care about the client and want to be able to spend time helping the client. Being a Tarot Advisor is their calling and is how they pay the bills. They are fully invested in their clients and their outcomes and often prefer to work over the long term with clients.
When working with clients over time we can look back at previous readings and help the client understand patterns that are emerging and playing out in their lives. We value the client relationship and hope the client feels the same.
You Get What You Pay For
As is true with everything, you get what you pay for. If you are looking for a quick, fun fortune, go with the cheap Tarot reading price. You’ll only be out few bucks for a laugh. However, for those looking to create movement in their life, who seek to understand what is going on, who would like to look at the possible outcomes of different decisions, work with a real professional. It will be worth it in the end.
