“No sunrise finds us where sunset left us” is a line from Kahlil Gibran’s The Prophet. This lovely book was used to create an Oracle card deck that I find inspiring.
Oracle Cards – What Are They?
Oracle decks provide divination, guidance, and inspiration through a set of cards featuring beautiful images and words conveying a specific message or meaning. Unlike tarot cards, oracle cards offer a wide variety of content and interpretation, with each card providing guidance on specific aspects of life, such as relationships, careers, spirituality, or personal growth. Oracle decks are commonly used for self-reflection, meditation, or seeking guidance on a particular issue or question. In a reading, oracle cards can be used to confirm one is on the right track or provide further insight if the reading is too general or unclear.
Sunrise and Sunset
This card’s meaning is clear: life continues on, changing us from moment to moment even when we feel stuck. The book that comes with this deck includes this extended section of Gibran’s poetry:
The Farewell
We wanderers, ever seeking the lonelier way, begin no day where we have ended another day; and no sunrise finds us where sunset left us.
Even while the earth sleeps we travel.
We are the seeds of the tenacious plant, and it is in our ripeness and our fullness of heart that we are given to the wind and are scattered.
Like the Tarot card known as “The Wheel”, this oracle card reminds us that everything around us is in a constant state of change, regardless of our actions. So, if you’re feeling frustrated or angry today, know that these emotions will eventually pass. We can make a conscious choice to learn from these feelings and use them as lessons to bring about positive change in the future. This way, the next time a similar issue arises, we can approach it without the negative emotions of frustration and anger.
Between Sunset and Sunrise
The Wheel – Heaven & Earth Tarot
Even while we sleep we continue moving forward on our path, processing information received during waking hours, and connecting in ways that seem wonderful and strange through dreams. Our subconscious treats our experiences like seeds “given to the wind and are scattered”. These seeds pop up both as inspiration and as involuntary fears or aversions in our waking lives.
Meditation and Oracle Cards
This card (and the deck in general) makes for both a good journaling prompt and a topic of meditation. Here are some ideas to ponder:
- What do the words “sunrise” and “sunset” mean to me? What feelings do they convey? What picture comes to mind?
- If “tenacious plant” is a metaphor, what does it represent to you?
- How can you reach the point of “ripeness and fullness of heart”?
- What seeds are you scattering?
There are no right or wrong answers here as they are all so very, very personal. One person’s sunrise might be another’s sunset. You can only truly understand this card as it relates to your own experience.
What Clients are Saying about Sophrosyne Tarot
I was advised to ask open-ended questions instead of predictive questions which I thought was helpful because I never would have known if it weren’t for the reader. The reader provided the reading along with some advice too so the entire reading was very thorough and explained in an understandable manner.
Everything said was accurate and helpful for me to identify my flaws in order to grow as a person. I have learned a lot about tarot and what it does to help me.
