Creative Fire Never Really Rests
The King of Pentacles shows us the result of acting upon our creative fire, but also reminds us not to rest on our successes too long. The figure in this card gazes into the future and seems about to get up and move forward.
I just noticed how the gold plate from which the King pours his riches is etched (or reflects) the world. His wealth is based in the real world and he looks everywhere for his opportunity. You can reach the summit of your goals and dreams, but that is the end! There are further summits and more material gain before you if you can use the creative fire within you.
Chasing Your Creative Fire
Having an idea takes you places you never thought existed. Chasing your creative fire may mean leaving things behind, but those things will always be there when you return. In the Eight of Cups the figure holds a lotus, a symbol of rebirth. Notice how they walk away from the deep, still pool, choosing rocky obstacles and more turbulent waters? They aren’t turning their back on intuition (the pool, the Moon), but instead seeking a different path to the more turbulent parts of their subconscious.
If you are really good at something and feel very comfortable with it, trying tweaking it a little and making it more difficult. This card is all about looking in the corners, climbing the sharp rocks, and not taking the easy way. Your creative fire will take you in unexpected directions.
My Personal Take
I’ve got to admit, I’m not feeling that creative fire today. For me personally, the message of this reading is to get moving, step out of my routine, if even a little bit, and do something unfamiliar. I’m trying to free myself from some habits, so this really hits home for me.
