Am I doing what I should be doing? It’s a question that many of us ask ourselves at some point in our lives. Whether we are just starting out in our careers, contemplating a major life change, or simply feeling stuck in a rut, it’s a question that can cause us a great deal of anxiety and uncertainty.

building a second brainI work with this question on both the macro and micro scales. When anxiety starts to build during my workday I ask myself “Right now am I doing what I should be doing?” Usually, this is yes and the anxiety decreases as I let go of everything else to focus on the here and now.  This question works because I’ve already decided on the macro, or bigger scale, that during certain hours I will prioritize work responsibilities.

The truth is, there is no one-size-fits-all answer to this question. What you should be doing depends on a variety of factors, including your skills, interests, values, and priorities. However, there are some steps you can take to help you answer this question for yourself.

Doing What is Important to You

First, take a moment to reflect on what is important to you. What are your values, and what do you want to achieve in life? These can be big-picture goals, such as wanting to make a difference in the world or wanting to create a fulfilling life for yourself and your family, or they can be more specific, such as wanting to learn a new skill or travel to a particular destination.

Identify What You Are Doing Now

Once you have a sense of what is important to you, think about how you are currently spending your time. Are you doing things that align with your values and goals, or are you spending your time on activities that don’t really matter to you? If you find that you are not doing what you should be doing, it may be time to make some changes.

Set Specific Goals

Of course, making changes is easier said than done. It can be difficult to know where to start or what steps to take to move in a different direction. One approach is to set specific, achievable goals for yourself. For example, if you want to learn a new skill, you might start by taking a class or finding a mentor who can help you develop that skill. If you want to travel, you might start by researching destinations or saving money for a trip.

If What You Are Doing Doesn’t Work – Change Course!

Understand the ConsequencesIt’s also important to remember that it’s okay to make mistakes and to change course if something isn’t working. Life is a journey, and it’s rare that anyone gets everything right on the first try. If you find that you’re not doing what you should be doing, it’s okay to pivot and try something new.

Ultimately, the key to answering the question “Am I doing what I should be doing?” is to take the time to reflect on what matters to you, and to be honest with yourself about whether your current path is aligned with your values and goals. If it’s not, don’t be afraid to make changes and try something new. You never know where the journey might take you.

What Clients are Saying about Sophrosyne Tarot

I was advised to ask open-ended questions instead of predictive questions which I thought was helpful because I never would have known if it weren’t for the reader. The reader provided the reading along with some advice too so the entire reading was very thorough and explained in an understandable manner.

Everything said was accurate and helpful for me to identify my flaws in order to grow as a person. I have learned a lot about tarot and what it does to help me.

I’m learning to reflect on what is important to me. I always set goals or challenges and find that helps keep me on track.

Great post…great questions to start asking oneself to reflect on…but it doesn’t stop there. And being honest with yourself and what you want, how you want to live, and more come into play- keep going with this post it’s a great start but it seems you are a coach looking to help countless people find their way in life and more.

Absolutely! I see myself not as a fortune teller but a consultant or guide who helps people connect to their own inherent knowledge. Some people connect to it easier than others and need an assistant or guide.

Diane, this is a major and important question. I have little experience with Tarot other than admiring the artwork, and wow! So, I thought you might introduce the idea of Divine Guidance as a source of determining what we *should* be doing. If a person does not believe in or relate to Divine Guidance, however, maybe the question to ask is “what is best for me to be doing right now?” In Tarot, is the guidance thought to come from the Divine, from guides, or from wisdom of the cards themselves? Or something I’m missing entirely? Anyway, thank you for raising the important question of what is most important to be doing. Big life questions deserve some contemplation.

This is a good question and the answer depends on who you ask. I personally think that we already know what we should be doing at the subconscious (if not conscious) level and using the Tarot helps connect with the knowledge we already possess. It is my belief that humans need to dig deep into their own wisdom, strength, and knowledge first and foremost. Whether you believe in an external divine being who manages everything or a shared consciousness with all living things, it seems to be to denigrate the Divine by constant looking to it for answers without first calling on the knowledge and abilities It provided us with in the first place.
