Back again with a new deck review. This week I’m looking at the Star and Strength: Tarot Deck for Beginners deck which was provided to me for free by its creator. Using the classic Smith-Waite-Rider images, this deck adds a summary of the meanings around the cards, making this a good deck for beginners or casual users.
Star and Strength Tarot Deck
First off, I love, love, love the texture of these cards. They are nice and slippery, but have a kind of linen-like texture which is very tactile. I like touching these cards!
Each Card has a summary for the upright and reversed meanings at the top and bottom. The sides feature keywords for upright and reversals as well.
The font size is small, especially for those of us getting up there in age, but still readable
The Cards
I’m going to be brief her because the cards are literally the same as the Rider-Waite-Smith. What I can look at is the interpretations written on the cards. Reviewing the majority, I agreed with all of them and found them worded in a fairly down-to-earth way.
Two additional cards are included which aren’t Tarot cards but have overviews of the Suites, number meanings, and Court Card explanations. A QR code on the back leads to the creator’s site and offers video walkthroughs of each card, which is really cool.
Conclusion
I like this deck. It has a good feel to me, is easy to handle, and the cues on each card will be perfect for learners and casual-use readers alike. It might be a good rotation into use with clients and people who are interested in learning more – aiding them in our readings.
