Happy Monday! Today’s focus card is the Seven of Swords. With a touch of intrigue and a hint of strategy, this card entices us to explore the deception, cunning, and strategic thinking. Personally, I find this card pretty enigmatic in my readings – you need to look at the cards around it to really interpret this card.

The Art of Deception

Seven of Swords

Modern Witch Tarot

When the Seven of Swords appears in a tarot reading, it suggests a sense of secrecy and deception. This card depicts a figure discreetly carrying five swords while leaving two swords firmly planted in the ground. Is the figure stealing the swords? Or perhaps the swords belong to them and they are taking what is their own back. When reading for a client, the first thing I look at when this card appears is the question and any background the client provided. My first thought is that the person asking the question is hiding something from me and, likely, from themself

When reading for yourself, ask if you are admitting the whole story or background of the issue. Is there something you are ignoring? But don’t worry if you don’t figure it out; either the surrounding cards will provide a clue or the Seven of Swords other meanings might be in play.

This card really represents the need to navigate through life’s challenges using cleverness and strategy. This card urges us to consider our motives and the consequences of our actions. It signifies that we may encounter situations where a little cunning is necessary to achieve our goals.

The Seven of Swords and Strategic Thinking

Seven of Swords

Heaven and Earth Tarot

When deception isn’t involved, the Seven of Swords usually means that you need to take what you can and exit the situation. For example, if you are considering whether to stay working for your current employer or take a new job, this card suggests you go with the new job. In a relationship reading it usually is telling the person to get out of the relationship, or at least separate and give yourself time to consider.

If you are in a situation where you need to just get out, don’t worry about those dropped swords. Take what you can and don’t regret what was lost. Instead enjoy what you retained or regained!

The Shadow Side of the Seven of Swords

While the Seven of Swords embodies the art of strategic thinking, it also warns of the shadow side of deception. It serves as a cautionary reminder that not all acts of cunning are honorable. This card encourages us to question our intentions and assess the potential harm that our actions may cause to others or ourselves.

I had this card come up in a financial reading. After beating around the bush with the client I finally asked “Is there something you have that isn’t yours?” It turned out that due to some legal contract wording the client took a big windfall that otherwise would have been shared with their partners. The real issue at hand was the client’s guilt at “cheating” their partners.

Embracing Ethical Strategy

The Seven of Swords does invite in some sneakiness, but it also asks us to look at our behaviour. Can we adopt an ethical approach to strategy and problem-solving? This card really calls for introspection and self-reflection. It prompts us to assess our own actions and motives, challenging us to explore whether we are acting from a place of integrity or succumbing to the allure of deceit. It encourages us to seek authenticity and honesty within ourselves. Diplomacy, foresight, and tact can be powerful tools when used responsibly.

Navigating Challenges with Wisdom

Seven of Swords

The Uncommon Tarot

In times of adversity, the Seven of Swords offers guidance. It reminds us to remain vigilant and discerning, to look beyond appearances, and to trust our instincts. This card suggests that careful evaluation and astute decision-making are essential to overcome obstacles and emerge triumphant.

I have seen this card appear in a reading about how a business event would go. The Seven of Swords didn’t really fit in with the rest of the cards and I finally suggested she keep an eye on her belongings at the event. She got back to me to let me know that a bunch of cars had been broken into at the event!

The Seven of Swords and Relationships

In matters of the heart, the Seven of Swords raises a cautionary flag. I’ve never seen this card as a good sign in a relationship reading. Instead, it suggests dishonesty or manipulation within the relationship.  This card urges open communication and transparency, reminding us that trust is the foundation of any healthy connection.

Conclusion

Ultimately, the Seven of Swords invites us to examine and re-examine both our motivitations and the motivations of those around us. Use your wit and intelligence ethically, without causing harm or betraying trust. Embrace the power of introspection, reflecting on your actions and motives to ensure they align with your higher self.

Build relationships based on trust and honesty, for they form the foundation of strong connections. Be wary of any tendencies toward manipulation or dishonesty, as they can erode the bonds you hold dear.

What Clients are Saying about Sophrosyne Tarot

I was advised to ask open-ended questions instead of predictive questions which I thought was helpful because I never would have known if it weren’t for the reader. The reader provided the reading along with some advice too so the entire reading was very thorough and explained in an understandable manner.

Everything said was accurate and helpful for me to identify my flaws in order to grow as a person. I have learned a lot about tarot and what it does to help me.
