For me, the Queen of Swords is all about justice, being firm, setting boundaries, and holding tight to them.  She is unusual in that I find her King more flexible, more open to the flow of energy in a kind of role reversal.

Most Queens are nurturing and creative; some people describe them as mother figures. This Queen is the stern, unyielding mother, the type that sets rules that must be obeyed and deals stern punishment if they are not. In the Heaven and Earth Tarot she is holding up the head of a man to whom she has administers punishment as if warning us. The other hand holds her sword straight up and she looks sternly into the future.

Communication is associated with the suit of Swords and the Queen of Swords is an excellent communicator, though blunt. Some may even call her “sharp-tongued”.  This is a Queen who uses logic and rational thought to make decisions rather than emotions. In fact, she probably feels that emotions just muddy the situation. She has no patience for hanging onto past emotions but is a quick thinker and highly perceptive.  She understands situations quickly and is the image of a determined, independent, and resilient person.

When this Queen shows up it is time to make a decision – make it quickly and finally, don’t second-guess yourself. In a relationship issue, she tells you to get it all out in the open with the other person; it is time to talk it out. Detach yourself so that you can view the situation dispassionately.
