Well, the Major Arcana is making a big statement for me today, let’s see if I can keep up!
When I started blogging regularly again in September I decided that when a writing block hit me the Tarot cards would guide me. This morning I drew a blank. The suggestions from Paul at the Ultimate Blog Challenge didn’t interest me, so out came my Light Seer’s Tarot deck. I shuffled and cut and shuffled. Hand on my heart, I really shuffled this deck! During my final cutting four cards just popped out, in order. Three on my desk and one on the floor. Three were Major Arcana and one an old favorite, the Queen of Cups.
About Major Arcana
The Major Arcana are 22 non-suit cards in a Tarot deck. In other words, they aren’t in the suits of Cups, Pentacles, Wands, or Swords. These cards represent big energy in your life, lessons you need to learn, or themes that are playing out for you. You should sit up and pay attention when a Major Arcana card shows up! Having three pop out, well I’m interested to see what they say!
Major Arcana Energy: Change
The Wheel comes up to remind us that change is inevitable and, in fact, necessary to life. The key is to work with the part of the Wheel you are on (top, bottom, going up, top, going down). This Major Arcana card’s energy today feels like balance. After yesterday’s frustrations, the Wheel reminds me not to hold on, to let it go because the Wheel is already swinging me around to a different place.
A Court Card Interlude
Next up is the Queen of Cups. She is not a Major Arcana card, but she’s been appearing to me several times a week for the last month and a half. This means either I’m not getting her message or I’m still in the Queen of Cups process. Well, I’m not getting the message. My meditation practice, which the Tarot has been counseling me to restart, is already faltering. I never seem to make time for it and Her Majesty of the Subconscious is reminding me to step up.
Major Arcana Energy: Change…BIG Change
The Tower card is an uncomfortable card, probably the most uncomfortable Major Arcana for me. This card shows a tree being destroyed by lightning as forest critters try to escape. The Tower indicates inevitable, complete change. This destruction can be of a way of life, idea, material loss, or emotional destruction. The pain and loss involved depend on the situation. In my case, this card refers to a problem that occurred yesterday which I’m still fretting about. The Tower tells me that the issue is gone and done. It isn’t going to work, so I need to move on to a new solution, but also get it out of my head.
Major Arcana Energy: Manifestation
I feel like I read the Minor Arcana (the suits), but I have a relationship with the Major Arcana. The Major Arcana, when laid out in order, describes the journey of the Fool to enlightenment. The Fool meets the Magician first thing and his message to the Fool is to use what they have to manifest what they need. The tools are present in all of us, we just have to use them. The Magician is all about calling on your inner power, your understanding, knowledge, and feelings of right and wrong, and using them as tools on the journey. How those tools are used is covered by each card in the Major Arcana
The Major Arcana With a Very Personal Message

Although the question in mind when shuffling the cards was “What topic should I blog about today”, the message I received was very personal. I had a terrible day yesterday and messed something up. The Wheel reminds me that I’ve moved on, or I need to move on. The Queen of Cups tells me that if I worked harder on my meditation practice I could have handled myself better. The Tower specifically tells me not to try and resurrect what I did yesterday. Abandon the old, it won’t work, time to move on. Finally, the Magician tells me to manifest my solution from the knowledge I gained.
This all makes sense. My main job is as a programmer and my approach to a solution for my client bombed big time. I have an alternative, but it is more expensive and the client is very price-conscious. The cards are telling me, just leave yesterday behind and go with this new solution that I know will work. Oh, and start meditating again.
The Queen of Cups in my readings is beginning to feel like Cato in the Roman Senate where he ended every speech, no matter what it was about, with “Delenda est Carthago” or “Carthage must be destroyed”. I better start paying attention.
What Clients are Saying about Sophrosyne Tarot
I was advised to ask open-ended questions instead of predictive questions which I thought was helpful because I never would have known if it weren’t for the reader. The reader provided the reading along with some advice too so the entire reading was very thorough and explained in an understandable manner.
Everything said was accurate and helpful for me to identify my flaws in order to grow as a person. I have learned a lot about tarot and what it does to help me.
Hi,
I don’t know what a major arcana is but I hope that you will be able to keep up.
Greetings, I have a couple friends who are teaching me about different card decks and their meanings. I appreciate how you use them to guide you in your writing. Meditation, I am finding through multiple sources including your post, keeps coming up for me as a practice I need to strengthen as well. Thank you for sharing. Sending lots of love. Jaime
