The Fool may be male or female. Their alignment is immaterial because they learn on their journey how to use both “feminine” and “masculine” energy. Innocence is a keyword for this card, their foolishness is rooted in innocence rather than a lack of intellectual ability. In fact, the Fool is intellectually curious, ready, even eager to soak up all of the knowledge that the world presents.

This card can show up when you don’t realize what you are getting yourself into. It tells you to go with the flow, trust your instincts and intuition, take that leap of faith.

The Fool’s number is 0 and can be placed at either the beginning or the end of the Major Arcana. In reality, the Major Arcana, or the Fool’s Path, is a wheel or a cycle. With every journey through it, the Fool “levels up”, learning new lessons and aligning themself with their Higher Self. This card represents the innocence of infancy, beginnings, opportunity, and potential. You are called to commit to your path, trust with all of your heart, and completely embrace the unknown. You are never prepared for the Fool’s journey because what you need to complete the journey will come to you as you take the path.
