Today we are meeting the Three of Wands. Click here for other Tarot card introductions.
The Three of Wands in Numerology
Three is a triad and we can see it all around us from a three-legged stool to:
- Mother, Father, Child
- Beginning, Middle, End
- Birth, Life, Death
- Conscious, Subconscious, Unconscious
- Spirit, Mind, Body
Each Tarot suit is its own journey. The Ace is the germination of an idea, Two denotes planning and seeing if the idea will work, while three is the start of the action or project. We’ve put it out into the world and now we monitor our idea and see what it returns us.

Modern Witch Tarot
Three of Wands as Waiting
In the Modern Witch Tarot, the figure stands between two upright wands, holding another as a walking stick or support. They are literally watching their ships come in, the thought or idea that they sent out is now returning with the results.
The art of manifestation tells us to envision what we desire and send that desire out to be fulfilled. We let go of it and then wait. Another concept to point out is that of the threshold. We cross a threshold anytime we go from one thing to another. In this case, the figure has stepped through that threshold, depicted by the two upright Wands, and has firmly planted their own Wand as a kind of claim to what will come.
Three of Wands as a New Beginning

Heaven & Earth Tarot
Without my glasses, the ships this figure overlooks appear as icebergs, reminding us that not all ships return to shore. Sometimes we make a new start only to have it fall apart. When this happens we need to step back, back to the Two of planning or even the Ace of ideas. What needs to change to support your ideas and goals?

What Clients are Saying about Sophrosyne Tarot
I was advised to ask open-ended questions instead of predictive questions which I thought was helpful because I never would have known if it weren’t for the reader. The reader provided the reading along with some advice too so the entire reading was very thorough and explained in an understandable manner.
Everything said was accurate and helpful for me to identify my flaws in order to grow as a person. I have learned a lot about tarot and what it does to help me.
