The Queen of Swords isn’t a person you’d want to cross. She’s strict and enforces what she thinks is right with no bargaining. Let’s dive deeper into this interesting card.
The Queen of Swords: Strict, but Predictable
I like this Queen because once you know her rules and boundaries, she is all in to help you out. She’s excruciatingly fair, and if you mess up you’ll face the consequences but those consequences are lessons that will help you grow. You know when you cross her lines or break her rules because you feel guilty, embarrassed, or angry.
The suit of Swords represents mental activity, intellect, beliefs, and communication. Air is the element and clouds usually feature in this suit, as well as butterflies as symbols of metamorphosis or change.
The Queen of Swords As Logic
The Queen of Swords always feels more rigid in her beliefs than the King. There isn’t much flexibility in her to bend the rules. She’ll stick to logic and reason and disregard emotional pleas or excuses. If this card appears in a reading as a person it will be someone in charge who has some sort of authority over you.

Heaven & Earth Tarot
To work with or attempt a compromise with a Queen of Swords use logic. You may see a problem differently than they do. Explain your difference of view and you might actually change her mind!
The Queen of Swords Has No Regrets
Because the Queen of Swords has looked at an issue from all sides with her keen mind and logical reason, she will render her judgment and then get on with her life. She has no regrets, even when new information arises. She just re-examines the issue with the new information and renders a new judgment.

Gregory Scott Tarot
I like the ability of this Queen to not rethink or second-guess herself. Because she knows she was as thorough as possible and included all the information she had at the time, she doesn’t need to regret a decision. She might regret that someone hid information from her though!
The Queen of Swords as a Helper
The Queen reminds you to look at all available information. If you sense deceit or not enough knowledge, she’ll counsel you to hold back with your decision until you are satisfied you understand the matter completely. She may seem cold and unfeeling to some, but she really just encourages you to step back from your emotions in order to understand a problem better. She knows that emotions cloud our judgments at times and looking at hard facts can help us make better decisions.

Triple Goddess Tarot
Although it seems like this Queen is unfeeling or cold-hearted, she actually is nurturing and helpful when you can step out of your emotional cloud. She’s an excellent communicator and explains things in detail. Listen closely and she’ll give you all the information you need.
The Queen of Swords as an Obstacle
If this card appears as an obstacle it usually indicates you are lost in your thoughts, being fanciful, or overly emotional about the issue. Depending on the spread, the question, and the reading, it might mean you are emotionally detached from a situation or you need to detach yourself emotionally! She also appears when you are waffling about making a decision or aren’t expressing yourself very well. Your question might also lack thought or logically make no sense.
Where You Might Meet the Queen of Wands
Wherever she is, she is in charge. Boardrooms, department heads, and the legal profession are all under her jurisdiction. You probably won’t find her in politics – too emotional (The Queen of Wands would love politics!) If you work with her, bring her facts and potential solutions, not problems. Saying “I don’t know” to something you could have googled will earn you a reprimand.
People in real-life who represent her energy in at least part of their life include Bill Gates, Marie Curie, Charles Darwin, Socrates, and Aristotle. I’m sure there are more, but I’m drawing a blank! Help me out in the comments.
What Clients are Saying about Sophrosyne Tarot
I was advised to ask open-ended questions instead of predictive questions which I thought was helpful because I never would have known if it weren’t for the reader. The reader provided the reading along with some advice too so the entire reading was very thorough and explained in an understandable manner.
Everything said was accurate and helpful for me to identify my flaws in order to grow as a person. I have learned a lot about tarot and what it does to help me.
I wish you could put all of these in a book or workbook form, so that I could refer to them (and find them easily)! They really help me to understand on a deeper level – thank you!
Is that a dare? 🙂 I’m actually thinking of it.
Ah yes, The Queen of Swords was my ruling card for last year, she was well-prepared, courageous, and could cut through any *ish. This year, The Fool card rules, which I have been preparing for new journeys, I am more vulnerable, and that is my new power, but wishing I had those queen-like qualities to finish out the last few months. I agree with Rita, a workbook, guide, or perhaps you could create your own deck with accompanying reflection book. Thank you for sharing. Sending lots of love. Jaime
A great exercise for the Fool is to practice looking at everything with new eyes. Take some time during each day and spend some time as if you were seeing, doing, or experiencing them as a baby or an alien. Even 15 minutes will surprise you!
While I do not know much about tarot cards at all, the Queen of Swords sounds so very familiar to me… I love how you explained this (and other previous posts too, looks like) so it helps even someone who is a novice (like me)
