One problem I have with prompts taken from other people is understanding what is being asked. Today’s September Tarot Challenge prompt is “In what area or what way am I asked to elevate myself?” I thought about this prompt and decided to take it as, “what do I need to rise above” or “what should I move on from”.

The spread is all Swords today. Swords represent air, thoughts, logic, boundaries, and a whole lot else. But I feel that thoughts and logic are the subjects here simply because yesterday I struggled, did some stress eating, and just didn’t get a whole lot done.  My thoughts and actions certainly didn’t elevate anything yesterday!

You Can’t Remain Elevated When You Cut Yourself Down

Five of Swords, Lo ScarabeoThat frustration with myself is very clear in the Five of Swords. There are consequences to my actions; my blood sugar was off the charts yesterday and I felt bad about myself and my inability to stay focused. That figure in the card is me, with all of my own negative feelings pricking me all over.  It is hard to elevate yourself when you are stuck in the middle of a situation. But today is another day.

As is with most Tarot cards, the Five of Swords offers its own solutions. The figure doesn’t have to stay in the center of all of the conflict. Instead of remaining where they are, nothing stops them from walking away! They could also go to each person and seek resolution to each issue represented by that person. What is clear is that I do have choices, but my current one is to shut down and feel bad about myself.

Elevate Yourself Equals Know Yourself

Four of Swords - Lo Scarabeo - ElevateSo I take a step back and find the Four of Swords. In this card, the figure removes themself from the center of the conflict and meditates on the root causes. They make their action (or non-action) clear with a big banner, “Hey, I’m rethinking things, trying to find a compromise or a different path. I don’t choose to stay where I am.”

Did you notice the figure floats? They released their negative thoughts and literally elevate themself above material and emotional matters. This card reminds me to both seek the true root of my emotional turmoil and not allow that turmoil to pull me down. This is a pretty strong answer to the prompt!

Lightening the Load Can Elevate You

Seven of Swords - Lo Scarabeo - ElevateAfter taking the necessary step back to evaluate my emotions and thinking, I’m now free to move on, taking just what I need or want with me as I move forward. My teacher once said that the Seven of Swords can represent consolidating your gains or realizing your profits and getting out of the situation. Take what you can from it and move on. That backward glance though. Is the figure making sure they’re not being followed? Or do they secretly regret leaving? After all, the unknown can be scarier than the known, even when the known isn’t good for us.

In other contexts, I might see the cobra, poised to strike, as a threat, but snakes also represent inspiration and knowledge. When the figure gets bit will they realize they don’t need most of the burden they carry?

What Clients are Saying about Sophrosyne Tarot

I was advised to ask open-ended questions instead of predictive questions which I thought was helpful because I never would have known if it weren’t for the reader. The reader provided the reading along with some advice too so the entire reading was very thorough and explained in an understandable manner.

Everything said was accurate and helpful for me to identify my flaws in order to grow as a person. I have learned a lot about tarot and what it does to help me.
